No
one ever though that an Indian team will be instilling fear in the mind of
opposition from it pace bowler but such has been the revelation since 2013 ,
that India have slowly and steadily started to change the culture of the pace
bowling in the country and by 2020 they possesses the bunch of fast bowlers who
are changing the meaning of being fast bowler in India , A look at the new
generation pacers
1. Jasprit Bumrah :
While India’s pace bowling was growing and formed the best core group of pacers
but they needed a leader which trusted in their abilities and a pacer with an x
factor. India got both in 2015-16 in form of Virat Kohli appointed as skipper
and Jasprit Bumrah getting the taste of International Cricket , it was the
moment that changed the age old conception about the Indian pacers. Since
making his Test debut Bumrah has achieved the consistency any captain could have
asked his premier bowler to have. He is only 26 and has the ability to rewrite
the record books; he might end up forming the part of group of pacers who could
end up as the finest from the country.
2. Mohammad Shami :
A World Class pacer who has been one of
the most consistent bowlers for India and a
vital cog in India’s pace arsenal. In his 6 year career he has been a
bowler on whom captain have trusted to have a go in times of despair. 175
wickets in 47 Tests at 27.09, is the best in India’s Test Cricket history ( in
terms of average ) add on 136 wickets in 73 ODI’s at an astonishing average of
just 25, proves by the time he will end his career he might be on top of charts
with 500 wickets across all formats.
3.
Ishant
Sharma: Ishant Sharma completes India’s pace troika. A
bowler whose career has been divided into two half, the first half when he was
ridiculed and the second half when he has been hailed as the most improved
bowler. At the age of 31 years, he is deemed to be veteran of the team who has
played almost 13 years of International Cricket. Next year he will be playing
his 100th Test which will be a huge achievement , considering he
will be only second bowler after great Kapil Dev to reach to this landmark.
Ishant though has learnt to enjoy his game rather than taking too much stress
and he is reaping the benefit of this new avatar.
4.
Umesh
Yadav : Had Yadav played for any other country probably he
would got more chances than what he has got in his Eight year Career. In spite
of the fact that he has got chances only when the first choices have been
either injured or have been rested ,he has performed exceedingly well. His
ability to ball fast in long spells is one of the reason why he has been
getting lot of wickets of late both with new ball and as well as with old ball.
This season he played 4 out of 5 Home tests and he bowled with lots of
hostility picking up 23 wickets at an astonishing average of 13.65 on docile
Indian pitches that are tailor suited for spinners. Yadav’s record has also
been improving continuously and a career average which stood at 36 few years
back have fallen back to 30. Till the end of 2019 he has picked 142 wickets in 45 Tests at an average of
30.26 .
5.
Bhuvaneshwar
Kumar : A Quality swing bowler from Meerut who completes
this pack, His capability and control in swinging condition is probably the
best of the lot. He can swing the both ways and can make even the best of the
batsmen in business look mediocre. He is now days considered to be the white
ball specialist especially since the arrival of Bumrah on the scene. While of
late he has multiple injury hit backs due to which he been unable to play for
India on regular basis but he will be surely in scheme of things for Ravi
Shastri for 2020 World Cup. He has taken 236 wickets overall in all the
formats.
There was a time when Indian team was scared by the
opposition captains but not anymore as the hunted have becomes hunters.
