1. You Guys are History - Devon Malcom to Hansie Cronje – England vs South Africa - 3rd Test 3rd Day , 20th August 1994
Backdrop: South Africa toured England for the first time
since readmission to international cricket and they played
impressive cricket . By the start of 3rd test they were leading by
1-0 . On the first day of the test things got soured between the two
sides , when Jhonty Rhodes was struck flush on helmet as he misjudged
a short length ball from Devon Malcom1.
Rhodes an epilepsy patient was taken to the hospital as a
precaution2
. The South African however didnt forget that Malcom was responsible
for it.
The Incident : On 3rd day when Malcom came out for the
batting , some of the fielders asked Fannie de Villiars to give him
what he did to Rhodes, especially Cronje who was standing in the
slips was adamant and he said “ comeon lets give him back” . The
first ball from De Villiars was a nasty bouncers which hit Malcom's
helmet blewing a piece of foam from it3
. Gary Kirsten at short leg inquired about his wellness but Malcom
was in angry mood and said “ I will Kill you guys '' , Kirsten
smiled back but Cronje and some other South Africans clapped which
made Malcom even more furious and he said “ You Guys are History''.
4
What happened after : On third day Malcom really made
S.Africa, a history , he started off a nasty one to get Gary
Kirsten , then took out his brother Peter , in what turned out be his
last test and then uprooted Cronje's stump to take his revenge .
South Africa were 1-3 at the stage and Malcom bowled a hostile spell
of fast bowling on a pitch full of pace and ended with a figure of
9-57 , in what turned out to be one of the greatest spells of all
time. England leveled the series 1-1 .

Man it doesnt matter where you come in to bat , the score is still
zero- Viv Richards to Sunil Gavaskar - India vs West Indies – 6th
Test 3rd Day , 27th December 1983
Backdrop : West Indies won
the previous test series played in West Indies earlier that year but
India won the coveted World Cup final against them . The West Indies
were eager for the revenge and they almost demolished Indian team in
their own conditions , giving them one of the worst defeats on
Indian soil. By the end of the fifth test at Kolkata , they had the
home team on haunches , utterly dominating them they had already won
the series and were leading by 3-0 . The test at Chennai for India
was saving something for future sake .
The Incident : Malcom
Marshall the legendry paceman had tormented Indians picking up 28
wickets in 5 tests . On the other hand the great Indian opener had a
mix series and inspite of the hundred at Kotla he had a quite series
. Failures in Mumbai and Kolkata forced him to come down at no.4 .
Marshall was on fire right from the start , he nipped out Anshuman
Gaekwad and Dilip Vengsarkar for duck and the score read 0-2 , when
Gavaskar made the entry . Viv Richards , the iconic West Indian
welcomed Gavaskar with a quirky statement “ Man,
it don’t matter where you come in to bat, the score is still
zero''5
. The
quote though considered to be a show of respect to great Indian
opener by another great player also showed how dependent India was
on Gavaskar .
What happened after :
Gavaskar played one of the finest innings by an Indian batman . He
ended up scoring a mammoth 236* , the highest individual score by an
Indian batsman in test cricket which stayed till 2001 . The test
ended in a draw but had it not been that innings from Gavaskar India
would have probably lost the test . However for West Indies it doesnt
mattered much as they won the 6 test series 3-0 and till date its
considered one of the most dominant victory over India in India .

See that I will hit you right there – Aamir Sohail to Venkatesh
Prasad – India vs Pakistan – 2nd Quarter Final , Wills World Cup
, 9th March 1996
Backdrop :
The 1996 World Cup was joint hosted by India,Pakistan and Srilanka ,
the limited over games had reached to its peak by then . It was all
billed as big final when the two hosts and arch rivals India and
Pakistan took on each other at Bangalore's Chinnaswamy Stadium on
9th March 1996 . India riding on Navjot Sidhu's 93 and breath taking
45 of 24 balls from Ajay Jadeja scored 287 in 50 overs . Pakistan
though started off on a flyer scoring 109-1 in just 14.4 overs at a
run rate almost over 7.5.
The incident
: Fifteen over of the Pakistani innings was being bowled by
Venkatesh Prasad, who was taken to task by Sohail and Anwar in his
first spell. The fifth ball of the over was drove through covers by
Prasad to the cover boundary . Then the moment came Sohail waived his
bat to a hapless Prasad and said something which cant be written due
to the language restraint and family audience here but he meant “
See that i will hit you right there '' .6
What happened after :
Pakistan
were 113-1 in 14.5 overs but the next ball Sohail again tried to
smack Prasad through covers but was clean up and then it was Prasad's
turn to give mouthful to Sohail along with giving him a rapacious
send off . With Sohail's wicket Pakistan lost all the momentum they
had gained and they lost the final by 39 runs getting all out for 247
, losing 9 wickets for 134 runs . A lot of people till date consider
Sohail's madness as the prime reason for Pakistan's loss on that
eventful night at Bangalore . Pakistan were out of the tournament and
India went on to play Srilanka in semifinals .

Hey Tufnell !! Can I Borrow your Brain ? I am building an Idiot''-
An Australian Fan to Phil Tufnell – Australia vs England -2nd Test
5th Day, 30th December 1990
Backdrop
: Phil Tufnell was one of the most colourful characters of the
English cricket in 1990s . Popular as Bad boy of english cricket he
was selected for Ashes tour of 1990, where he fell into trouble even
before he made his test debut. Fined for late night party and
spending night with four girls 7,
few days later Tufnell induldged in argument with team management who
wanted him to get batting practise in the net but he said that it was
of no value8.
On the other hand England had a very rough start to the tour losing
first test .
The Incident :
On the last day Australia were chasing 197 , for victory after
England have fallen to a magnanimous collapse of 6 wickets at 3 runs
on fourth day of the match . When Tufnell who was bowling an
impressive spell forgot the numbers of the ball and when he asked
Umpire Maconell gave the reply in language which cannot be written .
Stunned Tufnell argued the Umpire , he also got the support of his
captain Graham Gooch. Moments later when he went to field near the
boundary an Australian spectator cried “ Hey
Tufnell !! Can I Borrow your Brain ? I am building an Idiot''9
Backdrop : Few
overs later David Boon nicked Tuffnel to wicketkeeper but Umpire
Maconell was unmoved 10,
probably he was the only one in the stadium who didnt heard the nick
but then he was the only one who mattered . Tufnell went wicketless
in the test and he had to wait for another week at Sydney to get his
first test wicket and maiden five wicket haul.

.Tickets Please – Merv Hughes to Javed Miandad
-Australia vs Pakistan -2nd Test 4th Day ,22 January 1990
Backdrop : Merv Hughes and Javed Miandad were two fierce
competitors , they not only ensured their 100% with bat and ball but
they also made it sure that they intimated the opposition with their
aggressive body language , so when Pakistan toured Australia in
1989-90 , both of these were again involved in a funny incident , At
Adelaide Oval in second test Pakistan scored 257 in first innings and
were reeling down the hill at 4-22 in second innings in reply of
Australian 341 . When Javed arrived at the crease with Imran he took
the score at the end of day to 73-411.
Next day both the veterans started their work to take Pakistan to
parity . Hughes who was bowling superbly kept on beating the
legendary middle order batsman.
The Incident : Irriated with continously being beaten by Merve
Hughes , Javed trying to get under Hughes skin said “ Hughes you
should be conductor of a bus you are too fat to be a cricketer” . The fun
continued as in between overs Miandad continued to made noise of
pom pom like bus horn . 12
Hughes this time was at the receiving end but irritated he decided
to go round the wicket and bowled a sharp bouncer which touched a
fending Miandad's glove and went straight in the gully to Peter
Taylor . Now it was Hughes time to take dig on Miandad . He ran past
him and said “ Tickets please “ Miandad embarrassingly walked
back without saying anything knowing he had lost the battle .
What
happened after : Pakistan drew the test thanks to a magnificent
innings by their captain Imran Khan and Wasim Akram . The duo scored
the hundred and scored blushes for Pakistan who already were
trailing by 1-0 in the series .
